This short course is part of a series of 3 pronunciation courses, however, it can be taken as a stand-alone course or in conjunction with Understanding Natural Speech: thoughts and sounds, and Understanding Natural Speech: improve your listening skills.

Objetivos del curso

- To introduce participants to some of the aspects of natural spoken English that can lead to confusion or frustration for non-native speakers.
- To practice more effective listening and so help participants to improve their listening skills.
- To develop awareness of and skill with connected speech.

Competencias que adquirirás

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- identify some of the mechanics of natural speech,
- recognise various natural speech patterns,
- better understand natural spoken English.

Metodología Docente

the course is taught over 4 weeks with 2 sessions of 90 minutes each week. This allows participants to put into practice what they learn in each session and then build on that knowledge in the following session. The sessions are conducted as seminars and participants are actively involved in identifying and creating knowledge.

Evaluación

- Attendance and in-class tasks
- There will be out-of-class tasks after the first 3 sessions and a final recorded project at the end of the course.

The course will be taught in English. A minimum level of B2 CEFR is recommended.

Será necesaria la conexión a través de Windows Teams a la hora de inicio del curso, y la permanencia en el mismo hasta su finalización.
La conexión se hará mediante reunión para la que se recibirá invitación personalizada.

The sessions are highly practical and students are introduced to the theory through the use of both studio and authentic recordings and videos.

- After each session participants will be given specific tasks to complete which build on and reinforce the content of the relevant session.
- At the end of the course there will be a mini-project for participants to hand-in, which brings together the most important aspects of the course.
